Al started The Appraisal Group in 1994 after leaving a partnership in a well-established firm known as Chase-Bracket Company. Of course, if you have ever started your own company you know that at the beginning you wear every hat imaginable. As time went on he became an expert at finding the right people to help him do his job. One of the most important roles of a CEO is to find and lead people that know how to do the work better than the CEO. Recently, Al started noticing his employees and a few clients referring to The Appraisal Group, as TAG – and that is when the epiphany hit him. He had truly created a tag team – a team of individuals that collective work more quickly and efficiently than any one member as an individual.
Our goal as a company is to foster a feeling of Confidence in our clients about the product and the service we provide to them. I look upon my customer as a friend who I don’t want to let down.Al is the 9th out of a family of 10 kids that grew up in Northeast Minneapolis. His Dad was a cop and his mom, a secretary. He was raised Catholic and was an altar boy – he recalls a time when the nuns made him a head server, he jokes about how they must have regretted that decision since he had forgotten his lines. Al takes professional development and continuing education very seriously, and holds the two highest professional designations in his industry. The first is the MAI that was awarded through the Appraisal Institute and the second is a Masters in Real Estate Appraising from the University of St. Thomas. Al once ran the Twin Cities Marathon, back in 1994. It took him 4 hours and 34 minutes. He recalls being passed by a runner in a Tuxedo – who was running backwards! He also loves to be on the water, he enjoys spending his free time at his lake home on Lake Darling out of Alexandria, MN, where you can find him driving his boat or donning a pair of water skis.
